Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) is organic-sulfur compound with the formula (CH3) 2SO. This colorless liquid is an important aprotic polar solvent which dissolves polar and nonpolar compounds and is miscible with a wide range of organic solvents with water.
DMSO - Dimethyl sulfoxide is a clear liquid with a characteristic odor, which solidifies at temperatures below 19 ° C. DMSO was first synthesized in 1866 by the Russian scientist Alexander Zaitsev, who presented his findings in 1867. DMSO is a by-product of kraft pulp production process. It can also be obtained by oxidation of dimethylsulfide with oxygen or carbon dioxide.
